The the goals of the Convention are clear and commendable: it recognises a form of CH long ignored, and it should help to achieve a more balanced and hence credible set of programs protecting the world’s heritage. It is up to individual nations to decide whether or not to ratify the Convention. If they do not, the onus is on them to provide an alternative set of consultative programs that will achieve effective maintenance of their diverse intangible cultural heritage.
